La recesión económica ha llevado a varios medios de comunicación a disminuir su impacto, y en ocasiones como esta, al cierre total.
La revista fundada en 1993 por Quincy Jones, tocó fondo económico y la única declaración que se rescata es la de Angela Zucconi (directora del departamento de finanzas de la revista): ¨Haremos el anuncio al final del día, es todo lo que puedo decir por el momento¨… el resto de las preguntas fueron dirigidas al Steve Aaron, CEO de la revista.
Vibe gozó de gran auge a mediados y finales de los 90 y no dejó el liderazgo de los géneros urbanos hasta 2006, cuando fué comprada por Wicks Group. En Febrero de este año la revista recortó periodicidad, circulación, personal, salarios y hasta dias laborales para ahorrar tanto fuera posible.

We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news. It’s a tragic week in overall, but as the doors of VIBE Media Group close, on the eve of the magazine’s sixteenth anniversary, it’s a sad day for music, for hip hop in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and who continue to love the VIBE brand.
